A message from Supervisor Frank Principi to Dawson Landing Residents…
As you may know, I hosted a town hall last week with VDOT and Slurry Pavers, the contractor that applied slurry to Dawson Landing roads. As a result of the meeting, VDOT has agreed to reinspect these newly sealed roads and recommend additional possible actions to further address our concerns. A report is expected by the end of the month. My office will post the report online when it is released.
VDOT has also agreed to reevaluate the roads this Summer and determine whether the sealant is working as intended. If it is not, these roads could be added to the repaving list in the future.
Slurry Pavers has also agreed to run a street sweeper again on these roads to pick-up any loose aggregate. Sweeping will occur this Thursday. To maximize the sweeping effort, it is requested that cars not be parked on the roads on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017. Please help get the word out!
While none of us are pleased with the results of the sealant application efforts, VDOT and Slurry Pavers stressed that the roads will improve with regular wear and tear. Rolling traffic smooths and compacts the new surface and extends the life of these roads by 5-7 years. Cul-de-sacs however will require more time given less wear and tear on these sections of road. I will continue to monitor the situation going forward.
