State regulators have set a date for a new hearing evaluating whether Dominion Energy can move ahead with plans to build a controversial power line through parts of western Prince William County.

A hearing examiner with the State Corporation Commission has scheduled the proceeding for Feb. 8 in the commission’s Richmond offices, which will give the utility company the chance to make its case that it needs to move ahead with the project. The 230-kilovolt power line, set to reach a data center facility in Haymarket, has attracted fierce community opposition at every turn during the last three years over concerns about its impact on the environment and properties along its path.
