Dominion Virginia Power has an existing electric transmission corridor that runs through the Woodbridge/Dale City aream with two transmission lines that were built in the 1940s and 1950s. At the present time, these transmission lines exclusively feed three existing NOVEC substations that provide power to more than 11,000 NOVEC customers. It has come time for Dominion to replace these nearly 70-year-old lines.

“The 115kV lines were originally built in 1948 and 1954 on wooden poles. Although well maintained, it has come time to completely replace these old transmission lines before they become a reliability concern,” stated a Dominion press release.

Dominion held two open houses where the public could learn about the project and ask questions. More information can also be found at www.dom.com/smoketown, including project maps. If you missed the open houses and  have questions, contact Dominion at powerline@dom.com.

Additionally, Dominion received an interim order from the SCC regarding the Haymarket proposed 230 kV project.  Please see the SCC press release issued April 6.
