All regular Board meetings include Citizen’s Time at the beginning of the meeting. Each citizen who signs up is given three minutes to speak on the record. This time is not a question-and-answer period, but rather a time for citizens to speak in front of the whole Board. The Board appreciates citizen comments, and when appropriate, the Chairman will refer citizen concerns to staff or government agencies.

The following guidance is provided so that time can be most meaningful to you, to other citizens who desire to speak and to the Board.

At the Board’s afternoon and evening sessions, you may address the Board without restriction, or on any item not on the public hearing calendar for the day for up to three (3) minutes. The Chairman will allocate the time equitably among those desiring to speak. A lighted timer at the podium will turn red to advise you when your time is over, after which you must leave the lectern.

The Chairman will recognize you in turn and first ask you to state your name and address. Direct your comments to the Board as a whole through the Chairman. References to individual Board members should be “Supervisor” or “Mr.,” “Mrs.,” or “Ms.,” as appropriate.

For more information on Citizen’s Time or Board meetings in general, call the Office of Executive Management at 703-792-6600 or Supervisor Principi’s Office directly.
