MHES Best of Green Schools Award WinnersThe Green Schools National Network and the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has recognized Marumsco Hills Elementary School as a national winner in the “Best of Green Schools” class of 2018.

“The recognition achieved by Marumsco Hills demonstrates the commitment of the entire school division in promoting a culture of sustainability and conservation,” said Brian Gorham, administrative coordinator for energy management in the PWCS Office of Facilities Services. “The PWCS Energy Management team is excited to see the school’s sustainability efforts recognized at the national level.”

This year, the Best of Green Schools Awards recognized 11 individuals, institutions and projects that represent the best environmental efforts in schools around the country and highlight the national leaders and innovators in school sustainability. According to the Green Schools National Network and the USGBC, since forming a student-led Green Team, the culture at Marumsco Hills has transformed into one that values sustainability, with students actively collaborating with staff and administrators to implement green programs.

The Green Team work is led by teachers Kevin Steward and Brandon Hunt. The school was recognized for its sustainability efforts during the national Green Schools Conference and Expo held this spring in Denver, Colorado.
