The Board of County Supervisors has received a request to allow for the construction of a 22,400 square foot religious institution with maximum prayer hall capacity of 500 persons at 12655 Vint Hill Road in the Brentsville Magisterial District.

The Planning Commission and County Planning Department have both recommended approval of a Special Use Permit (SUP) to construct the mosque but not provide access to public sewer facilities. Longstanding policy does not allow public sewer access in the Rural Area. A public hearing on the matter has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 7:30pm. The white paper below, authored by the County Attorney’s Office, describes the legal constraints associated with this case under federal law, Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).
