Coordinated Entry (CE) is a process used to ensure all persons experiencing a housing crisis have fair and equal access to housing assistance, and are quickly identified, assessed, referred, and connected to appropriate resources. Persons needing emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, or permanent supportive housing have been connected via Prince William County’s CES (Coordinated Entry Services) for Homeless Services since its inception 18 months ago. After reviewing the over 11,000 calls to its number at 703-792-3366 in FY19, the hours are changing to Monday – Friday 8:30a – 8:00p to better serve the higher daytime weekday call volume.
The primary purpose of 703-792-3366 is to connect persons to emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, or permanent supportive housing, however staff does have information about local resources for persons who are at risk of being homeless and need diversion or prevention services.
A message will be on the line for persons who may call at nights or on weekends directing them to call local shelters. According to Social Services all shelter providers are aware of and in agreement with the practice.
The new service hours exceed those of other surrounding local governments, including Fairfax, Loudon, and Stafford counties.
