The Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, opened June 1, has already become a community gathering spot and regional destination. Most days, you can find people out enjoying the natural beauty, as they jog, bike or stroll along above the pristine wetlands. The County is preparing to complete a few remaining pieces of the project, as well as address some comments we have gotten as more people use the boardwalk.

  • Blackburn Road/North Landing Parking Lot: Paving is underway, and will be completed this summer, making the Boardwalk ADA accessible (original timeline revised date to reflect procurement and rain-related delays)
  • Standing Water at North Landing Trailhead: DOT will reconstruct this section of trail to achieve positive drainage
  • Reforestation at Blackburn Parking Lot and Rippon Blvd: Underway
  • Traffic Signal at Rippon & Blackburn: Right of way obtained; anticipated completion Fall 2019
  • Outdoor Fitness Trail: Equipment ordered.  Installation late Fall 2019
    •  Kayak Launch at North Landing: Will be accessible with 5% concrete slope entry; transfer system not available due to limitations of tidal waters. Completion anticipated by Summer 2020.
    • South Trail (Julie Metz Wetlands): Temporary signage installed.  Permanent signage pending, including  information on the (soon to be) accessible entrance at Blackburn Road, and directional signage to trailhead.
    • South Trail Boardwalk Connection (Metz Wetland to Leesylvania): Design complete. County is applying for Federal Recreation Trails grant.

  • Recently Added: Trash receptacles installed; securing vendor quotes on dog waste bags.Signs with park rules and emergency number are under design.
