On Tuesday, Sept. 4, senators from the Virginia Senate Subcommittee on School Facility Modernization will visit Fred Lynn Middle School in Woodbridge. Senators William Stanley, Jr., 20th District; Scott Surovell, 36th District; and David Marsden, 37th District will visit, along with Prince William County Schools (PWCS) representatives. Sen. Stanley is hoping to modernize schools through the work of this subcommittee. The proposal is for the state to issue $3 billion in general obligation bonds to address aging school facilities.
On Wednesday, Sept. 5, Virginia First Lady Pamela Northam will visit a model preschool classroom at Featherstone Elementary School in Woodbridge. County-wide, 44 preschool classes in 29 buildings support about 800 four-year-old children. Full and half-day models are offered, and PWCS receives funding from Head Start, Title I, and two Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI and VPI+) grants.
