Ceremony to Honor Veterans

May 14 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Members of the community are invited to join the Board of County Supervisors in honoring the country’s veterans during a ceremony on Tuesday, May 14, at 1 p.m.  The event will be held at the Prince William County War Memorial in Freedom Park in recognition of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, which both fall in May.

Armed Forces Day, celebrated on the third Saturday in May, serves as a tribute to those in the military. Memorial Day, observed annually on the last Monday in May, is set aside to remember those who fell in service to the country.
Bugler Donna Flory will play a call to order to begin the event, followed by Jennifer Decker singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America” later in the ceremony. Members of the Board of County Supervisors will give remarks, and Flory will sound “Taps” to conclude the ceremony.
For those who are unable to attend, a video of the ceremony will be streamed live on the county’s Facebook page, facebook.com/pwcgov, and posted on the county’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/princewilliamcounty.
Freedom Park is located at the Prince William County Government Complex, at 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge, just off the Prince William Parkway.
The War Memorial is a black granite monument inscribed with the names of all county residents who lost their lives while serving in war starting from World War I to present day. There are currently 124 names on the monument. Freedom Park also includes a memorial fountain dedicated to those in the community who died in the attacks on Sep. 11, 2001
