Between the Prince William Department of Parks and Recreation and the Historic Properties Division, there is an abundance of summer camps available locally, with something for everybody.

Parks Department camps, for children five through 15, range from water to sports to tennis, archery, dancing, drama, art, fishing, paddle boarding, golf, canoeing, kayaking and soccer among others. Nearby, offerings at Veterans Park include babysitting training,”Kids on the Runway” and Prince William Forest Park is the place to go for nature lovers.

Historic properties will offer opportunities for learning about what life was like here in the past, all the way from the Civil War through WWI, along with other history oriented camps. For instance, one camp puts children in the lives of Civil War soldiers, while another has them on the civilian side of that time period—learning what chores children their age would have done, foods eaten at the time and other immersive history activities.

A Virginia history camp will have campers explore the entire history of Prince William County, with field trips to many historic sites. Click here for the 2016 Prince William County Summer Camp guide, or email  Lisa Herr, Children’s Program Manager at
