While improvements to Route 1 are paving the way for inevitable growth, the goal is to develop areas that will minimize potential negative impacts and add to our overall quality of life. The Ray’s Regarde proposal does not fit this criteria: It would add 325 housing units (townhomes and apartments) to the already congested intersection of I-95 and Prince William Parkway on Horner Road. (Read more about the proposed development.)
Supervisor Principi will be opposing this application due its potential to exacerbate issues such as overcrowded classrooms and traffic congestion in an area known for a dangerous mix of students accessing school and motorists and delayed 911 response times. Additionally, there are concerns about building homes on a former landfill site with a history of cockroach infestations.
